When I think of a perfect Sunday, I picture a grey, slightly cold day. I can hear the rain hitting the trees, and see the sun peeking from the clouds. Sunday’s are meant for relaxation and a reset to the new week. I’ve put together a little list of what my typical (and ideal) Sunday morning routine looks like, and maybe it will give you some inspiration for your own routine.
Sunday morning routine
5-11am
Something about being awake at five in the morning gives off a sense of peace. I like to think to myself that the whole world is still asleep and I’m the only one present with the world at the moment. Now I can’t wake myself up at 5am every Sunday, sometimes ya girl needs her sleep. I always try to wake up anytime before 9am because I tend to beat myself up if I don’t do my morning routine or have to rush it (and that’s for my own personal reasons, I’m working on this flaw).
When I first wake up I stare at my ceiling and try to comprehend life (lol). Sometimes it’s a battle to wake up, but most of the time I just have to remind myself that it’s going to help start my day with positive energy which is enough motivation to get me out of bed.
Coffee time– I’ve resorted to brewed coffee since last spring when I first started school. I have an espresso machine, and as much as I love making espresso, I never had time during the school year to make lattes; and brewed coffee has just stuck ever since.
We await the coffee– when I turn on the coffee pot, I light up a candle, and work on pulling the candles I poured the night before. I inspect them and make sure they come out perfect. I grab some palo santo and light it up with the candle and walk around the house as I set intentions for the new day. I also check on the plant babies and make sure they’re watered and healthy.
Insta post– once the coffee is done, I do my little coffee morning post for my insta story. I always try to say something motivational or give perspective about something that may be going on in my life personally, but can be relatable to everyone. Spending time outside at an early hour makes the world look different, almost fragile. I like to go outside with my coffee in hand and sit on my deck as I hear the world wake up slowly with cars driving down my road and the birds getting out of their nests. Waking up early in the morning has always helped me start my day off on the right track because I have enough time to enjoy the quiet moments to myself.
Create a to-do list– I’ll grab my notebook and write down all of the things that I need to get done for the day and put it down in my notes on my phone, so I have it on hand. Once I’m done I’ll go down the list and put a star next to each thing that needs to get done urgently. This has saved me a lot of stress and has kept me organized throughout the day. I highly recommend this to everyone.
Writing– Writing has always been a big part of my life and now that I run a blog, I have designated Sundays to create new blog posts for the next week or next couple of weeks. I will always be sure to finish off with a journal entry. Usually it is about self reflection, how I’m feeling that day, or what I’ve learned the past week. It’s nice to get my loud ass thoughts out of my head and onto paper. It gives me relief and that’s almost always what I’m looking for when I have a pen and paper in hand.
Work out– I designate 30 minutes to an hour every Sunday for physical activity. Whether it’s walking the dogs, going on the exercise bike, or lifting weights at home. I’ve been working out for about 5 years now, so I usually wing it when it comes to my routines, but if I can’t think of anything at the moment or don’t have the motivation, Pinterest or YouTube always helps with workout ideas.
Meditation– I put my crystals out in front of me in a row and grab my singing bowl. I have affirmations and manifestations written down in my journal that I’ve been working on for the past couple of months. I will read those aloud and hit my bowl with the pallet each time I am done repeating them or whenever I feel satisfied. Once I’m done reading them off, I will put the singing bowl aside and meditate for 10 minutes. I turn on Native American flute music on Pandora and focus on the music and my breathing. I do the best I can to clear my head but I haven’t mastered meditation quite yet. My thoughts are extremely loud so sometimes I’ll resort to guided meditation, but I’ve been trying to go without it to train my mind. It’s been a struggle, but when I successfully meditate, I am at peace. When I’m not feeling well mentally or I’m upset, my boyfriend will often tell me to go meditate. Even he can see a difference in me after meditation.
Sunday evening routine
I am still in the process of mastering my evening routine and I try my best to include self care during the evening. After my morning routine I tend to keep working either on the business or chores around the house, and by the time I slow down it’s already 10:30 at night. It’s a work in progress, and the more we practice our routines the more natural it’ll become to our bodies and minds.
8:30-10:30pm
Bubble baths & poetry– I adore my bubble baths, especially during the cold winter months. I will draw a bath for myself and grab some lavender bath soap and add to it to give it a relaxing sensation. I’ll light up some candles and put them around the bath and the counter. I’ll then pick out a poem book and put a pillow towel next to the bath. I’ll grab a face mask and put it on before I enter the bath, then I’ll grab a bath bomb and head in. Talk about a way to soothe the nerves!
Snack time– I am the queen of late night cravings. It has actually gotten to the point where sometimes I’ll wake up in the middle of the night and go down stairs to eat a snack. It’s no bueno, and so I’ve been trying to incorporate a snack time before bed. My go to snack lately has been celery with peanut butter, or yogurt with berries and granola. Something light so I’m not too full for bed. I try to eat before 10pm, and start my fasting until 10am the next day.
Show time– My favorite show right now is Lucifer and let’s be real, I’ve loved this show ever since it came out six years ago. I was raised in a conservative Christian household and as a little girl I was always curious about satan in the most wholesome way. I always wanted to understand why people hated him so much, and I often felt that he was misunderstood. I was taught to hate him, but I felt wrong hating him knowing that he was also God’s creation. We are all made in the image of God and Lucifer was too, so it felt very contradictory for people to hate him with the values that we were taught to follow in church. So when this show came out six years ago, it was interesting to see things from Satan’s perspective. I love this show so much and if you haven’t seen it, you should! If you’re interested in the spiritual world or simply enjoy crime shows, this one’s for you.
Morning routines and evening routines not only save so much stress, but it gives you some time to yourself to start your day or wind down. I hope that this gives you some inspiration and ideas on creating a routine or perfecting the routine you already have. At least incorporate the bubble bath into your routine, it’ll change your life (;
