That would be too long of a conversation however, I made a list of some of the designers, people, or movies that have made an impact on my style today.

That would be too long of a conversation, however, I made a list of some of the designers, people, or shows that have made an impact on my style today.

Clueless

 An iconic movie that will always set the tone for 90’s fashion trends that were done so well. Cher and Dionne had two of the most iconic outfits, both of which are now popular Halloween costumes. I was LIVING for those knee high socks, it was one of my favorite trends ever and I still rock knee high socks to this day. But let’s talk about the iconic plaid suits; if anyone would really like to know where my love for business casual came from, you can ask 90’s Chanel, and Dolce and Gabbana, they ruined me. The film was filled with sweater vests, pantsuits, knee high socks with platform heels, and mini dresses- a fashion dream of mine. I’ve always been a fan of the knee high socks since Eloise at Christmas Time (one of my absolute favorite movies since I was eight years old), Gossip Girl, and The Nanny. The inspiration crept into my childhood and has left me with a long lasting love of mini skirts and knee high socks. Something about the style will always leave me captivated and longing to stay forever young.

90’s Chanel 

Maybe it’s because I’m a late 90’s child but the late 90’s Chanel runway was on fire. I remember seeing photos in magazines as a young girl just falling in love with Lagerfeld’s creation. The runway was filled with sexy business casual Chanel tweed suits, and I remember thinking to my five year old self, ‘when I grow up and go to work, that’s what I want to wear’. But it was also the latex leather trench coat with the gold Chanel chains dripping from Karen Mulders waist that had me convinced that is how a boss woman dresses. The dress Helena Christensen wore with a tie underneath and a belt to add figure along with Lagerfeld’s signature gloves made me rethink if purple is the color of royalty, because black started to look more and more like royalty to me. The whole 90’s Chanel collection inspired me as a child, and to this day anytime I think of a boss woman, I always picture her in vintage 90’s Chanel. 

Princess Diana 

The one and only, Princess Diana. A fashion icon and Icon in general. My mother was a huge Diana fan when I was a young child, and so I learned about The Royal family at a young age and have always kept up with them to this day. Their way of life has always made me curious, but Diana made the family even more interesting by breaking societal norms and spending time with people in need, rather than just throwing money at charities. But she also broke Royal fashion rules by showing her shoulders and knees. One of my favorite looks from her is the cowgirl boots, jeans, blazer, and ball cap that Hailey Bieber recently recreated. Even though I am considered a valley girl I have never been a fan of cowgirl boots until I saw this look. The look showed me that you can really pair cowgirl boots with just about anything, if you can make it work. This is a look I would go for just to run errands, but also go horseback riding. It’s casual and just the right amount of fashionable without being too over the top. But Princess Diana’s revenge dress was by far the most iconic and influential look to this day. People still talk about it, and during that time they were talking about how ignorant Prince Charles must have felt. Apparently the dress was made by Christina Stambolian three years prior, but the princess was nervous to wear it as it seemed too “daring”. Well, she picked the right time and place to wear this exquisite dress, and the Fashion World (along with the public), will remember this moment forever. 

Rihanna

I have watched Rihanna’s style evolve from the early 2000’s, and I have to say, she has come a significantly long way and is now considered a fashion icon. I started to relate to her style and became inspired by her when she wore the iconic Swarovski dress back in 2014, and that line she said to the reporter, “My tits bother you? They’re covered in Swarovski crystals girl”. This is the reason why I am all about freeing the nipple. That iconic moment is the reason I am a Swarovski girl and I have followed Rihanna throughout her fashion journey. Rihanna revisited her glitter days in 2017 when she wore a Gucci glitter covered body suit to Coachella along with a Gucci shirt. But Rihanna also keeps it casual in a sexy way, like this satin dress with a maxi coat and ball cap which was the icing on the cake for a casual look. She’s always inspired me to not take the business look too seriously and add some casual accessories when appropriate- something that you wouldn’t typically expect to work well together. A fashion inspiration indeed.

Fran The Nanny

Going back to the 90’s, Fran The Nanny was another fashion inspiration for me as a child. I swear, I would watch the show mostly for her outfits. I remember sitting on the couch in my little apartment in California watching The Nanny with my parents and just becoming mesmerized by every outfit Fran would wear. She was a great mixture of sexy business chic but also a 60’s gogo girl. Her style ranged from tweeds suits to latex in sometimes neon colors. She wore a mixture of Moschino, Herve Leger, and of course, Coco Chanel, which explains why I was so mesmerized. This woman’s style has made a huge impact on my style growing up. 

Bella Hadid

This woman has been one of my biggest fashion inspirations since I was a teen. I have been keeping up with her since watching The Housewives of Beverly Hills with my mom, all the way until she became one of the biggest top models in the world. I love Bellas style because she is a great example of our generation’s fashion and business casual. One of her memorable outfits to me was the oversized blazer with the belt and sneakers; I recreated an outfit just like it on my instagram, but with combat boots instead. Bella also loves her business suits with Air Jordan 1’s, and you think you’d be opposed just hearing it, but this girl makes it fit together naturally. She wears her sneakers with a business suit, or a crop top, with some mom jeans and makes it work. I fell in love with her style and could not stop thinking about the Air Jordan 1’s after seeing her pull them off with almost every single outfit. Her style has always given me so much inspiration to dress however I’m feeling that day, because she can be anywhere from a patent trench coat with fluffy cuffs and leather pants, to a bralette with mom jeans and Air Jordan 1’s. This woman does what she wants with her style and I am here for it! 

Dua Lipa

When I went through my fashion block at the beginning of summer 2020, I was on the hunt for some inspiration and there is no better person to give you some inspo than Ms. Dua Lipa. First of all, this woman’s music is pop reinvented, and I am here for it; I’m not a big fan of the new age pop music, but she has a different take on it. I began following her on instagram sometime around last year, and discovered her eclectic and risky style; from her glamorous stage outfits to her quirky street style. One of her most memorable outfits for me was the Moncler + Richard Quinn 2020 coat with matching leggings and shoes. Another memorable outfit was shown on the Tonight Show, made by the same designers but different pattern; a blue and white checker, with a sunflower on the right chest area of the jacket. These avant-garde outfits gave me inspiration to experiment with my style and try things that I never thought I could pull off.
